Twenty-three years of global private markets, deploying over $500 million a year across primaries, secondaries and co-investments — and one of the largest secondary transactions ever completed.
Peter Hwang was most recently Managing Director and Head of Asia of the Private Funds Group at PineBridge Investments, formerly AIG Investments, where he spent more than two decades investing in and advising institutional clients on private markets globally. During his tenure, Peter evaluated and executed primary fund investments, secondary transactions, co-investments, and other private-market strategies, deploying approximately $500 million annually on behalf of pensions, endowments, foundations, family offices, and other institutional investors.
His experience spans the full investment lifecycle, including manager selection and due diligence, investment structuring and negotiation, portfolio construction, asset allocation, diversification, liquidity management, risk assessment, performance monitoring, and ongoing manager oversight. He also played a key role in executing significant transactions, expanding the group’s investment capabilities and global footprint, and developing strategic client relationships that contributed to substantial growth in the Private Funds Group’s assets under management, particularly across Asia.
As Head of Asia, Peter led the group’s investment and business development activities across the region, managing teams in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Mumbai. Under his leadership, PineBridge developed strategic partnerships with leading local and regional private equity managers and generated more than 60% net IRR over 17 years through emerging-markets secondary investments, comprising more than 30 transactions across over 100 fund positions. Prior to relocating to Hong Kong, Peter was based in London, where he managed PineBridge’s European private equity activities, focusing primarily on Western Europe, with additional opportunistic investments in Central and Eastern Europe.
Peter has extensive experience working with investment committees and senior decision-makers and served as a standing member of the Investment Committee for several of the Private Funds Group’s investment capabilities and products. He regularly presented investment recommendations and communicated complex investment considerations to institutional clients and senior stakeholders. Throughout his career, he has developed extensive relationships with private-market investment managers, institutional investors, investment consultants, legal advisors, and other industry professionals.
Peter is currently a Senior Adviser to Heron View Partners, the successor to PineBridge Investments’ Private Funds Group. He began his private-markets career at Capital IQ, where he held investment and research roles. Peter is fluent in Korean and English.
